Hello,

I am using the RS485 Pi on Raspberry PI 3. It works very well and reliably.

My problem is why the connectors are faced towards inside of the board and not outside ?

It is not possible to enclose the PI + Rs485 hat in a case with connectors available from outside to plug in the wires.

Hello

We originally designed the RS485 Pi to be compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero as we felt that the Zero would be useful for making sensor nodes on an RS485 bus. As the Pi Zero is only 30mm wide the only way we could fit the DB-9 connector onto the board was to place it on the longer edge of the PCB. This has the unfortunate side effect of putting the connector in the middle of the larger Pi models.

If we tried placing the connector so it would be down the outside edge of the larger Pi models then the PCB would have been too wide for the Pi Zero and the connector would have sat over one of the mounting holes.
